A successful Ozaki surgery was performed on a 69-year-old male patient at the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
This was the first time this operation was performed in the country.
The surgery, led by Dr. Hasan Ceyda and Dr. Safa Özçelik from the Cardiovascular Surgery Service, was completed smoothly.
The team also included other doctors and healthcare professionals.
Visiting the patient after the surgery, Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek said, “Today, we have seen the success of our healthcare team, which realized a first in the island. This surgery is an advanced surgical method and can only be performed in certain elite centers including Türkiye and in a few places around the world. I congratulate our team and wish our patient a speedy recovery.”
He also praised the healthcare team for their success and highlighting the significance of the Ozaki method.
The surgery involves creating a new aortic valve using tissues taken from the patient’s own heart membrane.
