The aftermath of the treacherous terrorist attack that took place on Wednesday in the Turkish capital, Ankara has become clear.
In the terrorist attack carried out on the facilities of Turkish Aerospace Industries in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, 5 people were martyred, and 22 were injured.
While the two terrorists who carried out the attack were killed, it was understood that they entered the facility with a large amount of explosives.
Following the special operations team’s intervention, the terrorists detonated themselves.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who announced that the identities of the two terrorists, one female and one male are still being determined, said: “Our assessment is that it was most likely carried out by the PKK. Once the identities and other evidence are confirmed, we will share the information.”
It was understood that the terrorists attacked during a shift change at the facility.
A deputy chief prosecutor and eight prosecutors have been assigned to investigate the terrorist attack.
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), which plays a crucial role in the development of domestic weapons systems and is located in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, was subjected to a terrorist attack at around 15:26pm on Wednesday.
Two terrorists arrived in a taxi, and as soon as they got out of the vehicle, they began shooting at nearby civilians and headed towards the facility. At this moment, a powerful explosion was heard.
Following the attack, more explosions and gunfire were heard from inside the TUSAŞ facility.
A large number of special operations police and medical teams were dispatched to the area.
After the initial explosion, the gunfire and blasts continued.
Shortly after the attack, Gendarmerie special operations units arrived at the facility and launched a wide-scale operation.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya gave a statement at Bilkent City Hospital regarding the attack.
In his statement, Yerlikaya mentioned that they visited four of the seven patients, saying: “Two of them are our police special operations team members. The condition of all four is quite good. Unfortunately, the number of martyrs has risen to five. The total number of injured is 22. As I mentioned earlier, seven of the injured are being treated here.”
Yerlikaya also added that one patient had been discharged and that two more were expected to be released soon.
“The treatment process for 19 of the injured is continuing in hospitals. Nineteen of the injured are being treated across six hospitals,” he added.
Yerlikaya confirmed that the two terrorists, one male and one female, were killed and indicated that the attack was “most likely carried out by the PKK.”
Turkish Minister of National Defence, Yaşar Güler, commented on the terrorist attack on TUSAŞ, saying, “We will not stop until the last terrorist is eliminated, and we will make them pay dearly for what they have done.”
