Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre commemorated the Limassol Resistance and those who were martyred in this resistance with a message.

Issuing a message in remembrance of the Limassol Resistance and those who were martyred, Töre stated that the heroism shown by the freedom fighters had an important place in Turkish Cypriot history.

Noting that the struggle and resistance put forward added an important strength and spirit for the Turkish Cypriot people to reach where they are today, Töre said, “Our freedom fighters, who repelled the attacks organized by the EOKA members, put up a glorious resistance. Our brothers, who sacrificed their lives during this resistance, reached the rank of martyrdom and took their place in the deepest part of our hearts.”

He stated that the painful events experienced by the Turkish Cypriots throughout history have revealed that the Turkish Cypriots have no other security and assurance other than their motherland.

“Türkiye and the Turkish army are indispensable for us and we will continue to walk this path together. I salute our historical resistance and commemorate the martyrs with respect and gratitude. May their souls rest in peace,” said Töre.
