The leader of the nationalist movement, Başbuğ Alparslan Türkeş is being commemorated on the 27th anniversary of his death.
President Ersin Tatar and Speaker of the Parliament Zorlu Töre who both issued messages on Türkeş’s anniversary said that the late leader of the Nationalist Movement Party was a great statesman who remained in the hearts of the Turkish Nation.
In a message issued on Thursday, President Ersin Tatar said that Alparslan Türkeş was an important leader, not only for the Turkic world but for the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people.
He said that Türkeş’s services to the Turkic world and the Cyprus cause will never be forgotten.
“I respectfully commemorate Alparslan Türkeş, who was born in Cyprus in 1917, the founder and first leader of the Nationalist Movement Party, on the 27th anniversary of his passing.
Alparslan Türkeş was a great leader who defended our national values and ideals. His determined and resolute stance has always been a source of inspiration in our political life,” he said.
Tatar added, on the anniversary of his passing, we remember Alparslan Türkeş with respect for his dedication, courage, and leadership to the Turkish nation. His services to the Turkish world and our national cause will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.”
Also issuing a message, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said that Türkeş, who was a great leader had played a pivotal role in shaping Turkish politics.
“He established a place in the hearts of the Turkish Nation as a great statesman and intellectual with his commitment to the Turkish nation and the Turkish State, his struggle for democracy and his beliefs and principles”,Töre noted
Töre stated that Türkeş shed light on the arduous path of the Nationalist Movement Party and the Grey Wolves and left deep traces that will not be erased from the idea of Turkish Nationalism with his just and dignified struggle.
He also said that Türkeş, whom he had the honour of personally knowing and working with, has always set an example for the Turkish youth and the nationalist movement with his guiding identity.
“He has been instrumental in making hundreds of thousands of Turkish youth adore the Turkish nation and has never compromised on the red apple ideal with his strong-willed stance” said Töre.
In his message, Töre said, “It is the most fundamental and indispensable duty of every Turkish nationalist to understand Alparslan Türkeş, who is the unforgettable defender of the ideal of Turkishness and the cause of Turkish nationalism, who left deep traces in Turkish state and political life, and to protect his values.”
