Journalist Adem Yavuz, who was martyred by Greek Cypriots while covering the second phase of the Cyprus Peace Operation, was commemorated on Wednesday morning at the site where he was attacked, at a ceremony held in his honour.

A commemoration ceremony was held for journalist Adem Yavuz, who was martyred by Greek Cypriots while covering the second phase of the Cyprus Peace Operation.

Yavuz was commemorated at the site where he was attacked, in the buffer zone in Küçük Kaymaklı, which is under United Nations control.

The ceremony took place in the buffer zone of Küçük Kaymaklı, which is now under United Nations control, where on August 14, 1974, Adem Yavuz and his colleague Ergin Konuksever were caught in crossfire and shot while inside their vehicle.

Those attending the ceremony, escorted by UN officials, crossed into the buffer zone in groups and were taken to the location where one of the attacked vehicles was found.

After wreaths were placed on the vehicle during the ceremony, a moment of silence was observed.

Adem Yavuz, who was slightly injured in the initial attack, was martyred as a result of a second armed attack by Greek Cypriots.

The Greek Cypriots carried out the second attack on Adem Yavuz in the hospital courtyard where he was being treated.

Following efforts by the Turkish side, Adem Yavuz was transferred to the Turkish-controlled area and taken to Adana Medical Faculty Hospital in critical condition. Despite all medical interventions, he could not be saved and was martyred on August 26, 1974.
