Agreement signed between UBP, AK Party and New Azerbaijan Party

The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the New Azerbaijan Party, which are in the country as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), signed a Cooperation Agreement with the National Unity Party (UBP) on Tuesday.

The agreement aims to increase the cooperation of political parties.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, UBP General Secretary Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said that the memorandum signing ceremony between the 3 sister parties, coincided with a very meaningful day and that they were happy to sign an international agreement for the first time.

He noted that they will continue on their way as 3 states, one nation and 3 parties.

The Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Tahir Budagov for his part congratulated the TRNC on its Republic Day and stated that they are proud to be here on such a meaningful day.

He noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also attached great importance to furthering relations.

AK Party Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala for his part stated that with the agreement, inter-party cooperation will increase in the future and spread to a wider area.

Ala said that this agreement will play a major role on the road to the registration of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots.

UBP leader, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel emphasized that a historic day was being witnessed as this year marks the 48th anniversary of the establishment of the UBP and the 40th anniversary of the Republic and added that the 3 nations and 1 state discourse has now reached a legal dimension.

Stating that the struggle for existence that started in 1963 was crowned with the declaration of the Republic on November 15, 1983, Üstel said that important steps have been taken for the development and progress of the TRNC with the support of Türkiye in the last 40 years.

Üstel said that they have always made efforts as a constructive and solution-seeking party in the negotiations for 50 years in order to reach a fair, permanent and sustainable solution on the island.

He stressed the historical significance of the day and the progress made in the last 40 years with Türkiye’s support.

He called for the recognition of the TRNC and expressed hope that this cooperation will set an example for other Turkic nations.
