Agriculture Day event held in Güzelyurt

An event was organized at the Güzelyurt Vocational High School on Tuesday on the occasion of World Agricultural Engineers Day and Agriculture Education Day.

The event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education Vocational and Technical Education Department, the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, began with a moment of silence and the reciting of the National Anthem.

The opening speech of the event was delivered by Rüstem Kal, the Director of the Güzelyurt Vocational High School.

Kal highlighted the role of agriculture as the fundamental driving force of the country, emphasizing that agriculture is not only about food production but also a crucial sector providing opportunities in areas such as the economy, employment, and sustainability.

Erkut Uluçam, the President of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, expressed satisfaction with the opening of the agriculture department at the Güzelyurt Vocational High School and the increasing number of students.

Uluçam stated his belief that utilizing water from Türkiye in the region, which covers 65% of the country’s agricultural needs, would further enhance the potential.

Mayor Mahmut Özçınar of Güzelyurt highlighted the growing importance of agriculture worldwide.

He emphasized the need to implement innovations in the agricultural sector and stressed the importance of meeting the requirements of agricultural laws and using a portion of the income from agriculture back into the sector.

The Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş who also participated in the event stated that the importance of the agriculture sector has increased in line with the evolving world.

He underlined that the foundation of the economy lies in agriculture and asserted that education is crucial for implementing sustainable development and good agricultural policies.

The Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu pointed to the changing traditional production methods due to increasing population, decreasing land, and the need for food.

He explained that good agricultural practices, widely adopted globally, are being implemented in the country.

Also speaking, President Ersin Tatar mentioned that advancements in internet, communication, and information flow allowed developments in the sector to be closely monitored.

He highlighted the progress of the agricultural sector in the country and stressed the importance of taking advantage of opportunities to support and further develop local production.

Tatar concluded his remarks by pointing to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), despite the challenges that existed was one of the most beautiful countries in the world with its nature and climate, particularly the Güzelyurt region, which contributed to 70% of the country’s agricultural production with its citrus orchards.
