The military wing of Hamas, the Izz al-Din Al Qassam Brigades, has announced that the hostage rescue operation conducted by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) in Gaza city was “unsuccessful.”
In a written statement regarding the “unsuccessful” attempt to rescue captives at the El-Bureij Refugee Camp, the Qassam Brigades stated that resistance forces engaged in fighting with Israeli forces who infiltrated the location where they believed an Israeli captive was held for rescue.
The statement reported casualties among Israeli forces, including deaths and injuries, along with the confiscation of their equipment.
The rescue attempt was declared unsuccessful. As of now, the Israeli army has not made any official statements.
The Qassam Brigades had previously announced the failure of a rescue operation on December 8, 2023, where a hostage was killed following confrontation.
Israeli soldiers attempting the rescue also suffered casualties, as confirmed later by the Israeli army, reporting two soldiers were severely injured during the unsuccessful operation.
