The Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Yasin Ekrem Serim on Wednesday renewed his government’s support to the families of the Champion Angels who died in the February 6th 2023 earthquake in Adıyaman, Türkiye.

“Unfortunately, in this disaster of the century, we also lost our Turkish Cypriot brothers and children,” Serim said, stressing that the Turkish government as well as the embassy stood by the families of the Champion Angels who perished in the earthquake.

Evaluating the latest developments on the İsias case to the Turkish News Agency Cyprus (TAK), Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa said the Turkish embassy stood by the families of the champion angels.

Reminding that the families were in Adıyaman for exploratory work and asked for his views on the ongoing legal process, Serim said, “The pain of the earthquake disaster that deeply shook our country in February 2023 is still in our hearts as a nation.”

Ambassador Serim, who himself was personally involved in the coordination of search, rescue, and aid efforts in response to the disaster of the century, representing the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Deputy Foreign Minister, stated, “Our Turkish Cypriot brothers shared in our pain and struggle during the earthquake disaster, as they have in all our difficult days.”

“Unfortunately, in this disaster of the century, we also lost our Turkish Cypriot brothers and children,” the Turkish Ambassador said and added that he closely followed the developments on this matter at every stage during his tenure as Deputy Minister.

“Following my appointment as Ambassador to Lefkoşa, one of my first meetings was with the families of our Turkish Cypriot citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake,” Serim said and he further noted that, as a servant and member of the Turkish nation, he will continue to contribute to efforts aimed at preventing earthquake disasters and minimizing potential damage, as he has done so far.

“During this challenging period our nation is going through, we, as the Embassy in Lefkoşa, stand with the families of our ‘Champion Angels’,” Ambassador Serim added.
