The Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu has said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is working with the Republic of Türkiye to create a Cyprus that operates on green energy. However, he emphasized that achieving this goal is not easy, especially in the current days with ongoing conflicts.

Despite the attempts to isolate the TRNC from the rest of the world, Minister Amcaoğlu noted that the country continues to implement its goals and projects in the field of green energy in collaboration with the world.

In a speech at the 14th Bosporus Summit, Minister Amcaoğlu pointed out that all countries in the world aim to reach zero emissions and transition to green energy by 2035 but highlighted the need for financial support to achieve this.

He mentioned that the TRNC, as the 17th Turkic State, is also moving towards this goal and, thanks to agreements signed with the Republic of Türkiye, has set its target for 2030.

Amcaoğlu explained that through the collaboration with Türkiye, a project to connect the island to the mainland with an 8-megawatt cable has been planned between the two countries and efforts in this regard are ongoing.

The ultimate goal, he added, was to completely free the island from reliance on fuel oil and sustain it with green energy.

He emphasized that the TRNC is a state aiming to achieve its goals in higher education and the tourism sector.

Amcaoğlu stressed that everything ultimately depends on energy, stating that even if a country does not face financial difficulties, it will fall behind if it cannot implement green energy projects aligned with global trends.

Referring to the importance of the TRNC continuing its energy investments in parallel with the world despite being under isolation on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, Minister Amcaoğlu expressed confidence that permanent steps will be taken in the future as well.
