Date Added: 30 January 2024

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı inspected expansion work at the Metehan crossing point on Tuesday.

Speaking to the press at the crossing point, Minister Arıklı thanked Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, who has been following the issue closely, and the Economic Organizations Platform, which is funding the work being carried out.

Expressing satisfaction with the decision taken by the government to ease the congestion at the crossing points, Arıklı expressed the hope that the work carried out will ease the problem of long queues forming at the crossing point.

“We need new crossing points. These back-and-forth movements will increase trust between the two communities and enhance good neighbourly relations. Especially at the Metehan crossing point, the Prime Minister has made serious efforts to address this issue. The Economic Organizations Platform provided the financing, and the contractor company started work as of last Sunday. The work will be completed in a short period. We will have a modern entrance gate on our side. If our southern neighbour also makes similar arrangements, we can solve the problem of congestion at Metehan once and for all.”

Arıklı also said that Prime Minister Üstel, who will be briefed about the work, will also conduct inspections at the Metehan border crossing in the coming days.
