The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı briefed the TAK News Agency on the new Kıbrıs Airlines that will become operational in mid April.

Arıklı said that Kıbrıs Airlines, will be launched at the new Ercan Airport on March 13, and is expected to carry out its first flight to Istanbul on April 16.

The transportation minister said that the new airline company will carry out a total of 75 flights per week to three destinations, namely Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, and that its headquarters will be in Lefkoşa.

Stating that Kıbrıs Airlines was a private company established by a group of domestic tour operators in agreement with Freebird Airlines in Türkiye, he said the state did not have shares in the new company.

“The more companies we have, the lower the ticket prices will be,” Arıklı said.

“We have granted the necessary permits, they have fulfilled all the conditions to start on a scheduled basis,” he explained, adding that Kıbrıs Airlines will use the rights of Freebird Airlines and thus become a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Minister Arıklı also added that the establishment of another new company that will organize flights to Antalya in May is on the agenda.
