A first was realized in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) this week when recycling vending machines that can give food and water to street animals by placing plastic bottles, glass bottles and metal cans in the machines in the Tatlısu village.

Two Pet Pugedon Mamamatics, which were purchased with the income from the bazaar organized by Rose’s Country Club and Tatlısu Rescued Dogs and with the contributions of Tatlısu Municipality, were put into service on Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, Tatlısu Mayor Hayri Orçan, Rose’s Country Club owner Gülderen Aktuna, Tatlısu Rescued Dogs owner Claire Lamb and local environmentalists and animal lovers attended the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Tatlısu Mayor Hayri Orçan expressed his pleasure at bringing the vending machine, which supports recycling and at the same time feeds stray animals within the scope of the zero waste projects, to Tatlısu and to the TRNC in general.

Deputy Prime Minister Ataoğlu for his part thanked the Tatlısu Municipality and citizens for bringing environmental and animal friendly vending machines to the TRNC.

Pointing out that this is a first in the TRNC, Ataoğlu stated that the food and water needs of stray animals, which are necessary for their survival, will be met, especially when plastic bottles, which are the most harmful to nature, are cleaned from the environment and recycled.

Ataoğlu expressed the hope that the project will spread throughout the country.
