Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, has emphasized the significance of Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech during the July 20th Peace and Freedom Day celebrations, calling it a guiding light for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
In a written statement issued on Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu noted that Erdoğan’s speech not only addressed the present but also illuminated the path for the days ahead. He specifically highlighted Erdoğan’s assertion that “one cannot bathe in the same water twice, and ignoring the realities on the island will lead nowhere. We believe that a federal solution in Cyprus is impossible,” considering these words as a critical guide for their future actions.
Ataoğlu remarked on the importance of Erdoğan’s speech in reiterating the core policies regarding the Cyprus issue, underscoring its value for both current and future political strategies. “As Mr. Erdoğan emphasized in his speech, just as we stood together half a century ago, we remain united today. On these significant days, standing shoulder to shoulder with Motherland Türkiye, we have once again strongly felt Türkiye’s and the Turkish nation’s commitment to the Cyprus cause. Your remarks, highlighting the TRNC as Türkiye’s precious jewel, boost our morale and strength,” Ataoğlu stated.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed delight over the positive news for young Turkish Cypriots.
He welcomed the decision that, as of July, TRNC students would be subject to the same tuition fees and conditions as their counterparts in Türkiye, easing their access to education in Türkiye.
Ataoğlu hailed this decision as a significant step for the future of Turkish Cypriot youth.
Highlighting Türkiye’s support for young athletes, Ataoğlu acknowledged the importance of opportunities provided for participation in international tournaments. He emphasized their ongoing efforts to support youth further, leveraging the strong backing from Türkiye.
Concluding his statement, Ataoğlu reiterated their determination to continue their path with the strong support shown on the July 20th Peace and Freedom Day. “With this robust support, we will proceed with unwavering determination,” he affirmed.
