AZAL’s Embraer 190-type plane, which was on a Baku-Grozni flight, crashed on December 25 near Aktau, Kazakhstan.

38 people were killed in the crash and 29 survived.

AZAL announced that the plane crashed as a result of physical and technical external interference.

Speaking to AA, Azerbaijani officials confirmed the claim that the plane was attacked by the Russian “Pantsir-S” air defense system.

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and apologized for the “tragic incident in Russian airspace” in which the AZAL plane was shot down.
