Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that there were very warm and close brotherly relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), adding, “Our brothers and sisters in North Cyprus can be assured of Azerbaijan’s support.”
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov answered questions from an Anadolu Agency correspondent during the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Touching on Azerbaijan’s relations with the TRNC, Bayramov stressed that there were very warm and strong brotherly ties with North Cyprus.
He reminded that President Ersin Tatar had made visits to Azerbaijan, that there is an inter-parliamentary friendship group, and that the TRNC holds observer member status in the Organization of Turkic States.
Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan would continue to support the TRNC’s activities within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States.
Addressing the Cyprus issue, Bayramov said, “If we look at the matter more broadly, it is important to resolve the issue based on equal rights for the TRNC and the Greek Cypriot side. The rights of both communities should be ensured fairly. Historical, spiritual, and international legal factors must all be taken into account. Only in this way can a solution be found.”
Expressing confidence that a solution will be achieved, Bayramov concluded, “Our brothers and sisters in North Cyprus can always be assured of Azerbaijan’s support on this issue.”
