The 57th anniversary of the Bağlıköy resistance and martyrs of Bağlıköy were remembered.

A ceremony was held at the Bağlıköy Martyrs Cemetery for the martyrs of the village on Monday morning.

Wreaths were laid, a minutes silence was observed, shots were fired in tribute and flags were raised to the national anthem.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Acting President-Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre reminded that Bağlıköy, a small mountain village, had given 17 martyrs between 1958 and 1974, the result of Greek Cypriot barbarism and ethnic cleansing.

“Our freedom and the TRNC were made possible through the sacrifices of these martyrs. The resistance put up by the TMT and our freedom fighters are sacred,” said Töre.

He concluded his speech by stating that the Turkish Cypriot people will never abandon their state or motherland Türkiye.

The ceremony ended with prayers and the laying of flowers on the graves.
