The Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova met with his Turkish counterpart Mehmet Şimşek and the Turkish Minister of Commerce Ömer Bolat on Thursday as part of his contacts in the Turkish capital Ankara.

He moved onto Mersin on Friday to observe operations at Mersin’s international port.

In a statement issued after his meeting with the Turkish Minister of Commerce Ömer Bolat, Finance Minister Özdemir Berova drew attention to the importance of developing commercial relations between the two countries.

He said that a variety of issues, including the digitization and automation of the ports and customs, expanding trade volume and mutual investments were taken up during the meeting.

Later on Thursday, Minister Berova met with his Turkish counterpart Mehmet Şimşek.

Emphasis was made on the importance of inspection mechanisms and an agreement was reached at the meeting for the TRNC Finance Ministry to benefit from the example of the automation system in place in Türkiye.

An agreement was also reached to extend all necessary support for improving the finance ministry’s technological infrastructure.
