A ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Beyarmudu Martyr’s Cemetery to commemorate the six martyrs who fell during the national struggle years in the village.

The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre as well as other state and government officials.

The ceremony at the Martyr’s Cemetery at Beyarmudu on Wednesday began with a minute of silence, the firing of shots in tribute, followed by the hoisting of flags to the National Anthem.

During the ceremony, the Mayor of Beyarmudu, Bülent Bebek stated that Turkish Cypriots were subjected to many massacres between 1955 and the 1974 Peace Operation, and that the martyrs will never be forgotten, and commemorated the martyrs with mercy.

In his speech at the ceremony, Acting President and the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said, “If you forget the past, history will repeat itself again, the same pains will be experienced again.”

Referring to the genocide in Palestine, Töre condemned the fact that the whole world remained a bystander.

Referring to the problems experienced in Pile Yiğitler road construction last year, Töre said, “No one gave us this land as a gift, we bought it with the blood of martyrs, it is the gift of martyrs.”

“The state we have established is our national will, it is based on the blood of martyrs” said Töre.

Stating that the Greek Cypriot part of Cyprus is constantly armed and will establish a naval base, Töre said that the Turkish Cypriots are fully aware of what is taking place in the south and cautioned the Greek Cypriots against acting like spoilt children and continuing to arm themselves.

He commemorated the martyrs with mercy and ended his speech by expressing gratitude to the veterans.
