Date Added: 24 July 2023

A ceremony was held on Monday at the Beyarmudu Martyr’s Cemetery to commemorate the six martyrs who fell during the national struggle years in the village.

The ceremony was attended by President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre as well as other state and government officials.

The ceremony at the Martyr’s Cemetery at Beyarmudu on Monday began with a minute of silence, the firing of shots in tribute, followed by the hoisting of flags to the National Anthem.

During the ceremony, the Mayor of Beyarmudu, Bülent Bebek, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of not allowing the sacrifice of the 6 martyrs during the national struggle years to be forgotten and passing down their stories to future generations.

He also pointed out that the area, which has the longest border in the TRNC, faced certain difficulties, but that they have always adopted solution-oriented approaches to solve these problems.

Bebek expressed his gratitude to motherland Türkiye as well as his belief that a fair and permanent solution will be found to the Cyprus problem with Türkiye’s support.

Also speaking at the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people have been facing great injustices for decades as a result of the continuation of the outdate embargoes.

He reminded that the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been making calls to the international community to end the unjust treatment of Turkish Cypriots and for the recognition of the TRNC as soon as possible.

Tatar added that the martyrs left behind a state, a republic, and the opportunity for the Turkish Cypriot people to live freely and peacefully in northern Cyprus.

He also condemned the UK for its biased stance towards the Greek Cypriot administration despite being a guarantor country.
