Bayrak Radio Television Corporation is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its establishment.

While many events have been organized throughout the year for the anniversary of its establishment, the 60th anniversary of the institution is being celebrated with a reception that is being broadcast live on BRT.

The 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Bayrak Radio Television Corporation was celebrated with many events.

Many sportive, cultural and artistic events were organized throughout the year in celebration of the anniversary.

A reception was held at the BRTK premises.

The Security Forces Command band performed at the reception that was broadcast live on BRT.

Delivering the opening speech of the day BRTK Director Meryem Özkurt stated that the reception was organized to celebrate the first announcement of Bayrak Radio, which was established 60 years ago to make the Turkish Cypriot voice heard.

She emphasized that many projects have been implemented and that world standards are trying to be achieved with the work carried out.

The chairman of the BRTK Board of Directors Salih Can Doratlı started his speech by condemning the terrorist attack in Northern Iraq in which 12 soldiers were martyred.

“The heroic Turkish Armed Forces will never give passage to those who engage in such activities and those who will attempt to do so, and the Republic of Türkiye will preserve its existence and power forever” said Doratlı.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu for his part pointed to the self-sacrificing work of BRT employees in 60 years and congratulated all the staff.

Ataoğlu said, “I commemorate our martyrs on the occasion of the Martyrs’ Week and wish mercy to the BRT employees who lost their lives. We are aware of the existing problems of BRT in order for it to go further and we will do our best to contribute to overcoming these problems.

Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel were unable to attend the event but sent messages of praise.

The final speech was delivered by President Ersin Tatar who spoke of his experiences with the corporation and praised the efforts of the workers.

He also expressed the belief that BRTK will continue to be the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people in the future as well.

He said that what is import is the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Reminding that in the past there were severe restrictions with only a single Turkish movie being broadcast every three weeks, the President said now the Turkish Cypriots have their own voice and their own infrastructure.

“We have to use it for the benefit of our country. If there are so many private TV channels and broadcasts in this country today, the veterans of BRTK have a great contribution to this,” said Tatar.

He congratulated the 60th anniversary of all BRT employees and commemorated all the martyrs and expressed his gratitude to the veterans on the occasion of the martyrs week.

He concluded his speech by saying “We will continue to announce ‘Bayrak, Bayrak, Bayrak’ our voice to the world”.

After the speeches were completed, Ali Ziya Dinçer, who has served the institution since the establishment of Bayrak Radio and the staff who completed their 25 years of service at the institution were presented with commemorative plaques.

Meanwhile, the exhibition, which was opened at the Atatürk Cultural Centre a while ago in order to commemorate Hakan Çakmak, who served our institution for many years and to keep his works alive, will be moved to the BRTK Museum as of tomorrow.

The works, which will be exhibited at BRTK’s HD Exhibition Hall, will then be permanently moved to BRT’s Art Diary Corridor and will be open to visits.
