Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) Director Meryem Özkurt issued a message to mark the 3rd of May World Press Freedom Day.
In her message Özkurt stated that as Bayrak Radio Television Corporation, they try to give importance to the freedom of expression of people of all views and said, “Where there is no freedom of expression, civilization cannot be mentioned.”
In her message BRTK Director Meryem Özkurt congratulated all press employees who adhere to the professional principles and professional ethics of the press, especially BRT staff who workday and night regardless of public holidays.
She said that the freedom of the press is a fundamental element of a democratic society and is necessary for the healthy functioning of democracy and said that the press helps citizens make informed decisions by supporting the public’s right to information.
Meanwhile the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union is organizing a variety of workshops in honour of the day.
There will be a workshop on ‘Privacy of Private Life’ at 6pm and another workshop to discuss the Law on the Protection of Private Life and Confidential Area of Life at the Cyprus Turkish Journalist Union.
