Director of Bayrak Radio Television Corporation Meryem Özkurt said that Bayrak Radio Television Corporation continues to make the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people heard around the world with the responsibility of public broadcasting and the principle of integrity.

In her message on the 61st anniversary of the establishment of BRTK Özkurt said, “Happy 61st anniversary of Bayrak Radio Television Corporation, of which I am always proud to be a member of.”

Özkurt said that Bayrak Radio Television Corporation started its broadcasting life as Bayrak Radio on December 25, 1963 in order to make the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people heard and to defend their rights.

Noting that Bayrak Radio, which was a source of morale for the people with the announcement “Bayrak, Bayrak, Bayrak” (meaning flag), immediately after the events of December 21, 1963, when Greek Cypriot attacks intensified, was born as a necessity to announce the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people to the world.

She said that it grew from a single radio channel to 6 radio and 3 television channels over time.

“Today, it provides accurate and fast news to an average of 10 thousand users a day through its website. With the impact of digital media and social media, the spread of misleading news has accelerated and it has become more difficult to access accurate information. However, BRTK, acting with the responsibility of public broadcasting and the principle of accuracy, continues to make the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people heard around the world. BRTK, which contributes to the promotion of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with its ethical and impartial journalism approach by using the developing technology, continues to work with the same discipline and responsibility in order to provide the public with accurate information,” said Özkurt.
