The historic Büyük or Grand Hamam in Lefkoşa, a key part of Cyprus’ cultural and historical heritage, has reopened its doors after undergoing an extensive restoration.

The reopening ceremony was held today.

The Büyük Hamam also known as the Grand Hamam, a rare Turkish bath dating back to the Ottoman era, was brought back to life thanks to the efforts of the Cyprus Vakıflar Administration (Evkaf).

Following a tender process, the building was meticulously restored, preserving both its historical fabric and functionality.

During the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tümer, Director General of the Cyprus Vakıflar Administration, emphasized the significance of the Büyük Hamam, which dates back to the 1590s.

He described it as an important structure in Lefkoşa’s architectural and cultural landscape.

Resul Gül, the new operator of the Büyük Hamam, also spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the building’s role in Cyprus’ history as a cultural landmark and meeting point for centuries.
