Çavuşoğlu receives YÖK delegation

The Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, welcomed a delegation from Türkiye’s Council of Higher Education (YÖK) which is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to carry out technical work.

The meeting was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Metin Feyzioğlu, Undersecretary of the Prime Ministry Hüseyin Cahitoğlu, YÖK Acting President and Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Haldun Göktaş, YÖK representatives, Ministry bureaucrats, and experts.

In his remarks before the meeting, Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that there have been some recent discussions regarding higher education in the TRNC, emphasizing that the Ministry is continuously evolving and working towards the development of higher education.

Çavuşoğlu mentioned that with the arrival of the YÖK delegation, they will have the opportunity to assess the current difficulties and the overall situation of universities, take necessary measures, and address any legal shortcomings to progress forward.

YÖK Acting President and Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Haldun Göktaş for his part said that they have been conducting significant work to address the existing issues and that they have arrived in the TRNC with a broad delegation to seek solutions to urgent matters.

The Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Metin Feyzioğlu, emphasized that an ongoing investigation initiated at a university should not be used to discredit the entire TRNC university system, stating that Türkiye is ready to provide any technical support to the TRNC and expressed confidence that problems will be resolved collectively.
