Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu reiterated that Cyprus was Türkiye’s national cause.
“We have protected and continue to protect the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus and its surrounding energy resources,” Çavuşoğlu wrote in a post on social media.
Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu on Monday shared on his Twitter account Türkiye’s support to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with the message, “Our National Cause Cyprus, Our Entrepreneurial, Humanitarian and Effective Foreign Policy”.
Stating that a federation solution model, attempted for almost half a century, was no longer suitable, Çavuşoğlu underscored the strong support given by the TRNC to a “two-state solution on the basis of sovereign equality”.
Stressing that Türkiye had ensured that the TRNC was admitted to the Organisation of Turkic States as an “observer member”, he however noted that this was the first time the TRNC had been accepted into an international organization with its constitutional name.
Pointing out that they supported the TRNC government’s initiative to reopen the fenced-off town of Maraş, which had remained closed for 46 years, Çavuşoğlu said “we have protected and continue to protect the rights and interests of Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus and its surrounding energy resources.”
