Numerous ceremonies were held in Türkiye on Thursday marking the 49th anniversary of the Turkish Peace Operation in Cyprus carried out on the 20th of July 1974.
The TRNC’s Ambassador to Ankara İsmet Korukoğlu laid a wreath at Anıtkabir, paying his respects and signing the special book.
He also attended a ceremony organised by the Turkish War Veterans at the Atatürk Monument at Ulus.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, extended his greetings for Peace and Freedom Day through social media.
In his post, he congratulated the people of the TRNC and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the martyrs and gratitude for the veterans on the 49th anniversary of the Turkish Peace Operation.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also commemorated the 49th anniversary of the operation through social media posts, paying respect to the martyrs who fought for the national cause of Cyprus and the rights and freedoms of the Turkish Cypriots, and expressing gratitude to the heroic veterans.
The Turkish Ministry of National Defence also celebrated the occasion.
In its statement on social media, the ministry paid tribute to the martyrs who ended the inhumane massacres against the Turkish Cypriots and brought peace, security, and tranquillity to the island of Cyprus.
Various ceremonies and events were also organized in various cities across Türkiye to mark the significance of the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day.
