Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz pointed to the rumours that Israel has turned South Cyprus into a military logistics base and emphasized that the island does not need new tensions and military build-ups.
“Türkiye is always prepared to respond in the strongest way when there is a military threat” said Yılmaz.
He added that the ongoing construction of the Parliament and Presidency buildings in the TRNC will be completed in November or December.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz recently addressed regional developments, focusing on the situation in Cyprus while he took part on a television program.
He emphasized that Türkiye has consistently favoured a solution in Cyprus since the Peace Operation and has never backed away from negotiations.
In contrast, Yılmaz accused the Greek Cypriot side of not viewing the Turkish Cypriot side as an equal partner and seeking to control the entire island under its own administration.
Despite facing unjust embargoes, Yılmaz emphasized the substantial progress made by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in areas such as infrastructure, economy, universities, and tourism.
“The construction of the Parliament and Presidential building in the TRNC is set to be completed by the end of the year” said Yılmaz.
He reassured that Türkiye will continue to support North Cyprus as an equal and sovereign member of the international community, while also working towards the recognition for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Additionally, Yılmaz addressed rumours that Israel has turned South Cyprus into a military logistics base, emphasizing the need for positive cooperation and the avoidance of new tensions or military build-ups.
However, Yılmaz stated that Türkiye is well-prepared to respond strongly in the face of any military threat.
“As neighbours, as states and nations sharing the same geography, we need to build our future. We need to develop cooperation through positive projects. This is Türkiye’s perspective, but in the event of a military threat, Türkiye will always be prepared to respond in the strongest way possible,” he said.
