Champion Angels school opened in Iskenderun

President Ersin Tatar who was in Türkiye this week inaugurated the Hatay- Iskenderun Cyprus Champion Angels Primary and Secondary School, named after the students of the Gazimağusa Turk Maarif College who lost their lives in Adıyaman during the February 6 earthquake.

President Ersin Tatar, who moved on to Adana after completing his contacts in Istanbul, went to İskenderun via Adana on Thursday.

Prior to the opening ceremony of the Hatay- Iskenderun Champion Angels Primary and Secondary School, Ersin Tatar was briefed at the Iskenderun Governor’s Office about the work carried out by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency AFAD, in the 410 days since the February 6 earthquake.

Speaking here the President pointed to the loss of lives during the earthquake and said, “Our pain is as fresh as the very first day. We will always feel this pain in our hearts as long as we live.”

Expressing the hope that wounds will be healed in a short period of time and that such a disaster will never happen again, President Tatar expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the earthquake and wished them patience.

He then inaugurated the “Hatay-İskenderun Cyprus Champion Angels Primary School” and “Hatay-İskenderun Cyprus Champion Angels Secondary School”, which were built from containers by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye.

Delivering a short speech here President Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people are an inseparable part of the Motherland and will always be united as they have lived through many painful experiences together.

President Ersin Tatar stated that a city consisting of 500 containers was built in İskenderun with the support of the Economic Organizations Platform and that the name of the Champion Angels will be kept alive both in this city and at this school.

As part of his contacts in the region President Tatar also visited the Champion Angels container city where the school is located and chatted with the earthquake victims.
