The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Colin Stewart, expressed his hope that the 5+1 informal Cyprus meeting would be seen as an opportunity to make progress on the Cyprus issue.
Speaking at a bi-communal event, Stewart commented on the upcoming 5+1 informal Cyprus meeting in Geneva.
While acknowledging that fundamental differences in the peace process persist, he noted that the fact that the parties are coming together again was a positive development.
“I sincerely hope that the parties will consider the Geneva meeting as an opportunity to make progress on the Cyprus issue,” Stewart stated.
