President Ersin Tatar has said that the communication sector is the only sector that will not be affected by the current isolations and restrictions.
Tatar was speaking at the TRNC Communication Technologies Summit held under the auspices of the Office of the President and the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı announced that they will be launching the project to bring fibre optic internet to homes soon.
During the summit organised by the Information Technologies Communication Board, the Cyprus Entrepreneurship and Technology Investment Association and the Communication Technologies Cluster, contributions of tech companies in the TRNC to the local economy, the importance of fibre infrastructure and the cooperation opportunities of TRNC universities with the IT sector were discussed.
Addressing the summit the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı said that countries that lag behind in the field of communication will also lag behind economically and politically.
Stating that the work on the ‘from home-to-home fibre optics project’ has begun; Arıklı stated that the project will be launched in June with the build-operate-transfer model.
Stating that everyone has to believe in the motto ‘Cyprus, the island of informatics’, Arıklı called on all stakeholders to take responsibility and added that they are ready to do their part as the state.

Emphasizing that it is possible to achieve great things in this sector with creativity, innovation and the necessary infrastructure, Tatar stated that creating innovations in this sector will contribute to both the welfare and promotion of the TRNC.
Reminding that the TRNC state and the government have already passed the relevant laws in the Parliament, Tatar said that amendments can be made to the laws if necessary.
