Construction of new public hospital in Girne continues

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on Tuesday visited the construction of the New Girne Hospital, which is aimed to be completed by the end of the year.

Üstel was accompanied by Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek and Oğuz Akçay, the head of the Construction Planning Department which operates under the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.

Providing Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the press on the progress achieved, Oğuz Akçay said the new Girne public hospital for the exception of the basement and ground floors had reached the final stages of completion.

He added that talks were underway with the contractor firm to expedite the process, emphasizing their efforts to complete the building as soon as possible.

Also speaking, Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek also reiterated the government’s goal to swiftly complete the construction of the hospital as soon as possible, adding that the new building will bring huge relief to the Girne area as well as alleviate the burden on the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa.

He said he was frequently visiting the construction to oversee ongoing works, ensure coordination, and identify any deficiencies, with the aim of completing the hospital and inaugurating it at the earliest opportunity.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for his part underscored the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises to the public since taking office, emphasizing continuous efforts to implement stalled projects from previous administrations, enact reform-oriented legislative amendments, and initiate new projects to address citizens’ needs.

Üstel pointed out that the current hospital in Girne which was experiencing rapid economic development and a growing population was no longer able to cope or meet the growing needs of the Girne district.

He said that a modern, high-quality hospital to meet the public’s needs was long overdue.

“Hopefully the new hospital will be operational by the end of the year,” Üstel added.

Üstel also announced plans to continue investing in the country’s healthcare infrastructure across all districts to ensure citizens receive quality and modern healthcare services, including upcoming projects such as the Güzelyurt Hospital, upgrading existing health facilities, and establishing new health centres in Değirmenlik and Maraş.

He emphasized that the aim is to bring healthcare services closer to citizens, thereby reducing the burden on the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa.

Üstel expressed confidence in Türkiye’s ongoing support for the TRNC through major projects, including the acquisition of new health facilities through a new Economic Cooperation Protocol.
