Work on restructuring the tourism sector in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is continuing and within this framework the 1st meeting of the Türkiye-TRNC Culture and Tourism Joint Working Group was realized on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

After the meeting was completed, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Türkiye for joint studies on issues in the field of culture and tourism to be carried out.

The 1st Meeting of the Türkiye-TRNC Culture and Tourism Joint Working Group was realized in Lefkoşa, within the framework of the 2022 and 2023 Türkiye and TRNC Cooperation Framework Document Action Plan.

At the meeting, the Turkish delegation was chaired by Turkish Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Gökhan Yazgı, and the delegation of the TRNC was chaired by the Undersecretary of the Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Serhan Aktunç.

Following the meeting a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the TRNC Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, and the TRNC Foundations Administration.

Speaking during the meeting the Turkish Deputy Minister for Culture and tourism Gökhan Yazgı said that they had determined the strategy plan in the fields of culture and tourism.

Noting that a rigorous work process will begin with the participation of experts, Yazgı stated that Türkiye will continue to support the TRNC tourism sector to move forward.

Also speaking at the meeting the undersecretary of the deputy

Prime Ministry, Ministry for Youth and Environment Serhan Aktunç said the aim of the meeting was to create a form of tourism in which the public and tourists can come together, by restructuring and planning the country’s tourism sector.

Aktunç concluded by stating that they will restructure the tourism sector as soon as possible and turn it into a sector that makes the biggest contribution to the country’s economy.
