Council of Ministers held an extraordinary session

An extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers convened under the leadership of Prime Minister Ünal Üstel this morning in order to discuss the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that rocked Türkiye in the early hours of this morning.

Making a statement after the meeting was completed Prime Minister Üstel said the only sporting team they were unable to get in contact with was the Gazimağusa TMK sporting team in Adıyaman and that they would do everything they can to reach the team.

The situation of TRNC citizens who are currently in Türkiye, and aid and transportation to the earthquake zones were aslo discussed.

He said that they have started working with all institutions and that the Civil Defense teams consisting of 8 vehicles and 30 people will be going to Türkiye via ship and a team of 10 health officials have prepared and are waiting to be transfered to the regions in need.

Üstel stated that they are continuing their efforts to provide accurate information about the health status of TRNC citizens in earthquake zones.

Stating that they were in contact with the Gazimağusa Turk Marif College girls volleyball team and the Namık Kemal High School boys’ volleyball team in Kahramanmaraş, Üstel said that they are all in good health.

Stating that they are trying to reach the TMK girls’ handball team and the TMK Star volleyball team in Adıyaman, the Prime Minister said that the Gaziantep Education Attaché and AFAD are in contact with the Adıyaman Governorate Turkish Embassy and consulate in order to get accurate information about the citizens.

Üstel said, “We have mobilized all our means to gain information about our children. The information we obtain will be shared with the public.”

Meanwhile this week’s meetings of the General Assembly of parliament have been postponed due to the earthquake disaster in Türkiye.

In a statement made by the Parliamentary Assembly, it was noted that the assembly meetings have been postponed until next week.
