The countdown to the June 25 by-elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is continuing.

According to the calendar announced earlier by the High Electoral Council, the deadline for the nomination of candidates by political parties ends today.

The by-elections on June 25 are being held to elect an MP to replace the seat vacated by the leader of the Peoples’ Party Kudret Özersay who resigned from parliament as well as the posts of one mukhtar and 50 elders that were vacated for a number of reasons.

So far there are ten candidates seeking election for the single empty seat in parliament.
