CTJA hosts reception for July 11 Press Day

The Cyprus Turkish Journalists Association held a reception in honour of July 11 Press Day, commemorating the first Turkish-language newspaper in Cyprus, Saded, which Turkish Cypriot Ahmet Emin Efendi published.

The event took place at the Paradise Park.

The “Media Achievement and Incentive Awards” and the “Service Honour Awards” were presented to their recipients during the reception. Among the awardees were eight dedicated colleagues from BRT.

Thursday evening’s reception was attended by President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of the Parliament Zorlu Töre, former President Mehmet Ali Talat, several MPs, representatives of civil society organizations, and members of the press community.

Emin Akkor, President of the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Association, in his opening speech at the event, stated that July 11 was a day of solidarity for the Turkish Cypriot press.

He emphasized that the purpose of the event is to foster this unity. Akkor highlighted the association’s mission to improve journalistic conditions in the country and provided an overview of their ongoing efforts.

The previously announced “Media Achievement and Incentive Awards” and “Service Honour Awards” were distributed following the opening remarks.

The awards, presented in categories such as Traditional Press and New Media Publications, Television, Radio, and Special and Service Honor awards, recognized various media professionals, including eight from BRT.

Award recipients included:

Mustafa Sarpten for footage of the ISIAS Case court proceedings in the News Content category.

Özlem Tüylüoğlu for the program “Hayata Dair” in the TV Series Program category.

Ülgen Aksay for outstanding performance as a morning news anchor in the TV Anchor category.

Serra Yılmaztürk for the program “Endorfin” in the TV Culture and Arts category.

Kuzey Tarık and Şöhret Uzun for the program “Ömür Törpüsü” in the Radio Program category.

Additionally, the Radio Jury Special Award was given to Tuğba Özer and Ömer Suay for their program “Yaşamdan Konuklar.”
