According to the statement made by the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), party officials held a meeting with the DISY delegation headed by Annita Demetriou.

During the meeting that was realised at the CTP Headquarters, current issues regarding the personal representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General Maria Angela Holguin’s talks and the 14-point measures announced by Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides were discussed.

During the meeting, the issue of reaching a bi-communal and bi-zonal federal solution based on political equality on the Cyprus issue was also discussed and it was agreed that political equality, as defined in the relevant Security Council resolution, requires the acceptance of rotating presidency and effective participation in the federal state organs with at least one affirmative vote.

According to the statement, the parties agreed that “it is essential to adhere to all the convergences reached prior to Crans-Montana before the official negotiations, and to build a result-oriented process based on a timetable to be determined with a sense of urgency on the basis of the Secretary-General’s 6-point framework of June 30, 2017.

According to the statement, during the meeting, the parties expressed their determination to continue to increase their joint efforts in order to conclude the process with a compromise and put an end to the status quo.

The leader of the CTP Tufan Erhürman said that the 14-point measures announced by the Greek Cypriot leader were generally abstract and did not satisfy the expectations of the Turkish Cypriot community and that basic human rights should be delivered, especially the citizenship of children born in mixed marriages and the benefit from health and insurance systems.

DISY leader Annita Demetriou for her part stated that she will receive detailed information from the Greek Cypriot leader on these sensitivities and will strive to meet the expectations.
