The main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Genel Secretary Asım Akansoy stated that the 5+1 meeting planned to be held on Cyprus is a critical meeting and called on President Ersin Tatar to discuss this process together with the political parties in the Parliament and to address it in all its details.

“It is essential not to be the party that overturns the table,” said Akansoy.

The General Secretary of the Republican Turkish Party Asım Akansoy made statements on the Cyprus problem and the presidential elections in a television program he attended.

He commented on Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), stating that Fidan is open to addressing the Cyprus problem.

Akansoy emphasized that the United Nations is the key to solving the issue and leadership is required for a solution.

He criticized President Tatar for not showing the will to respond to the expectations of the Turkish Cypriot people regarding the solution.

Akansoy called for discussions on the process with all political parties in parliament and emphasized the importance of the upcoming 5+1 meeting.

He stated that the presidential candidate they will propose should represent all segments of society, not just the Republican Turkish Party, and should be a unifying figure.
