Tufan Erhürman, leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), emphasized the importance of the Turkish Cypriot community’s relations with the world, stating, “We will not stop at New York; we will visit European Union capitals as well.”

During a press conference held to discuss his recent meetings in New York, Erhürman highlighted that their goal is to initiate a negotiation process that will lead to concrete results.

Speaking with journalists on Thursday, the CTP leader Tufan Erhürman described the discussions in New York as productive and announced that his party plans to continue its international outreach in the coming period.

“We will not limit ourselves to New York. We will also visit the European Union headquarters and European capitals. Our engagement with Türkiye will also increase,” Erhürman stated, underscoring the importance of strengthening the Turkish Cypriot people’s ties with the international community.

He explained that the main purpose of the New York meetings was to bring the Cyprus issue to the attention of the global community.

Erhürman also reiterated the CTP’s commitment to a solution based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality.

“For us, what matters is that political equality is accepted before any new negotiation table is set. Our aim is to start a negotiation process that will lead to results,” he added.

Highlighting that there is nothing left to discuss regarding a solution to the Cyprus issue, Erhürman stressed the need for a results-oriented negotiation process.

“The convergences are clear, and they must be accepted. Otherwise, starting from scratch would be unacceptable,” he said.

Erhürman also emphasized that exposing Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides’ supposed pro-solution façade in the eyes of the international community would be a strategically sound move.
