Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), stated that there is ongoing and increasing activity regarding the Cyprus issue.

He pointed out that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan proposed that the presidents and prime ministers of the two guarantor countries meet with the leaders in Cyprus during his speech on July 20.

Speaking on a television program, the leader of the main opposition Tufan Erhürman shared his insights on the Cyprus problem.

He noted that he had carefully analyzed the statements made on July 20 and observed that the momentum initiated by the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin’s appointment is continuing and expected to intensify.

Erhürman highlighted the significant messages in Erdoğan’s July 20 speech, emphasizing Anadolu Agency’s coverage titled, “We are ready for negotiation, dialogue, and achieving lasting peace and a solution in Cyprus,” which he described as a strong statement.

He also pointed out that the Turkish president introduced a previously unmentioned proposal, suggesting that the presidents and prime ministers of the two guarantor countries meet with the leaders in Cyprus.

Erhürman remarked, “When I analyze the process, I see that we are in a very serious preparation phase, and the UN is not just in an observer position.”

He emphasized the existence of intense “backdoor diplomacy” currently at play.
