The leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), Tufan Erhürman on Monday, shared insights on key issues during a live broadcast on BRT.

Addressing his recent meeting with Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Erhürman emphasized the importance of maintaining healthy dialogue between Türkiye and the TRNC.

“We have always stressed the need for constructive communication with Türkiye. This is why I consider our meeting with Mr. Hakan Fidan very significant,” said the leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party Tufan Erhürman during a programme he attended on BRT on Monday.

He revealed that their discussions included potential developments on the Cyprus issue, adding that CTP had the opportunity to convey its perspectives during the meeting.

Erhürman pointed out a potential shift in momentum regarding the Cyprus issue, citing signals from the international community.

He expressed the expectation of a process centered on strengthening constituent states rather than a centralized structure.

Additionally, he noted efforts to downplay the Cyprus issue in Northern Cyprus but highlighted the significance of AKEL’s shift toward supporting a decentralized solution, in contrast to its previous positions.

When asked if the upcoming presidential election could serve as a referendum on a federal or two-state solution, Erhürman dismissed this notion. “The only acceptable model is a federal solution,” he stated firmly.

Regarding the CTP’s preparations for the presidential election, Erhürman indicated that the party is focusing on its congress scheduled for March.

He added that discussions about the presidential race would formally begin after the congress.

Responding to whether he would run for president, Erhürman said, “That will become clear at that time.”
