President Ersin Tatar has once again emphasized the importance of Türkiye’s support for the further development of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and its rightful place on the international stage.

Referring to Russia’s decision to open an office in the TRNC, Tatar stated, “The state and authority here are recognized. If there is an agreement in the future, the TRNC will be a part of that agreement.”

President Ersin Tatar on Thursday held an information meeting on the Cyprus issue and current topics at the Maraş Unity and Solidarity Association.

During his speech at the meeting, President Tatar noted that the TRNC continues to develop with the support of Türkiye.

He mentioned that the new airport is in operation, road construction is ongoing, and significant progress has been made in tourism investments.

“Türkiye’s presence gives us confidence. Therefore, investors continue their investments. Road and infrastructure works are ongoing. Efforts are also underway to bring electricity via cable,” the president said.

Tatar recalled that the opening of a Russian consulate in the TRNC had come up during the meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, “The state and authority here are recognized. If there is an agreement in the future, the TRNC will be a part of that agreement,” he added.

Regarding the views expressed within the EU on the issue of Cyprus not requiring guarantor powers, President Tatar mentioned that there are differing opinions.

He also highlighted recent racist behaviour towards refugees and foreigners in South Cyprus, noting that the termination of Türkiye’s guarantorship would eliminate the right to intervene in a possible situation.
