Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler underlined that the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people must be recognised.

Güler also stated that it is a priority to resolve the Cyprus issue as soon as possible in a way that guarantees the legitimate interests and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Speaking during discussions on the 2024 budget of his ministry at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the Turkish National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler emphasized that the only and definitive solution to the Cyprus issue is to act with the reality that there are two separate states and two separate peoples on the island, as the international community has begun to openly express.

Stating that it is a priority to resolve the Cyprus issue as soon as possible and in a manner that will guarantee the legitimate interests and security of the Turkish Cypriot people, Güler underlined that the registration of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people is a sine qua non.

“We invite our interlocutors to put aside the outdated status quo and provocative rhetoric and approach the issue reasonably and logically under historical and current realities. On this issue, which is our national issue, we will continue to support the legitimate interests of our Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters under all circumstances and do our best for the peace, security and prosperity of the island in line with the Treaties of Guarantee and Alliance,” said Güler.
