Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız stated that the solution of the Cyprus problem will ensure the security and dignity of the entire Eastern Mediterranean region.

Speaking at the UN Security Council, Yıldız said “It is time to focus on bottom-up approaches in accordance with the realities on the island, based on the sovereign equality and equal international status of both sides.”

The Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz emphasized the importance of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem to ensure the security and honour of the entire Eastern Mediterranean region.

Yildiz called for a bottom-up approach, considering the realities on the island and based on the sovereign equality of both sides.

He stated that Türkiye is committed to supporting a fair, equal, and peaceful resolution of issues in the region, including the delimitation of maritime jurisdictions and the fair sharing of hydrocarbon resources in accordance with international law.

Yildiz highlighted that security, stability, and prosperity in the Mediterranean region are of great importance to Türkiye.

He mentioned that the suggestion by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to organize an Eastern Mediterranean Conference remains on the table and could be a significant step towards a long-term solution.
