President Ersin Tatar said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) now stands as a reality all over the world.

Tatar also emphasized that the Turkish Cypriots are very happy that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan voiced at the UN that the negotiation process can only start when the equal sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot People is registered in the international arena.

The Cyprus issue was a topic that was given room during speeches delivered at the opening of the Girne Zeytinlik Olive Festival.

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said that the Turkish Cypriots, who were separated from the Turkish nation and army for 307 years, regained their homeland, peace and security with the July 20 Peace Operation.

“What is happening in Gaza and Lebanon, people are being slaughtered. If the Turkish Army had not come to the island, the same would have happened to us,” said Töre.

He criticized the statements of some segments in the country that Turkish Cypriots are disappearing, Töre said, “A wheel is turning in this country, there may be troubles, but there is a state. There is no giving up the state and the republic.”

“It is wrong to say that Turkish Cypriots are disappearing. The years between 63-74 the Turkish Cypriots were disappearing. We experienced many hardships during that time but now we have freedom and security” said Töre.

Töre also stated that it would be suicide for Turkish Cypriots to give up on the TRNC.

President Ersin Tatar for his part reminded that 50 years have passed since the 1974 Peace Operation; generations, ages and structures have changed.

Stating that the TRNC is now a reality all over the world, Tatar said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on the whole world at the UN to recognize the TRNC and to lift the embargoes and isolation.

Tatar emphasized that he was very happy on behalf of Turkish Cypriots that President Erdoğan told the United Nations that the negotiation process can only start with the recognition of the equal sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot People in the international arena.

He also said that the values in the country should be protected and noted that the TRNC continues to develop with the support of motherland Türkiye.
