Ceremonies were held at the Boğaz Martyrs’ Cemetery and Headquarters of the Police Special Operations.
The Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu stated that the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) is not only a terrorist organization, but also an espionage network that works insidiously for its dark ambitions.
President Ersin Tatar for his part emphasized that the Turkish nation’s determination to defend themselves against all kinds of attacks for the sake of their lives on July 15th has taken its place in world history.
A ceremony was held at the Boğaz Martyrs’ Cemetery for the martyrs who lost their lives in the coup attempt 8 years ago on July 15 in Türkiye.
Delivering a speech at the event, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu reminded that the coup attempt that took place in the Republic of Türkiye 8 years ago was prevented thanks to the brave resistance of the Turkish Nation.
Stating that FETO is not only a treacherous terrorist organization but also works insidiously for its dark ambitions, Feyzioğlu noted that the dreams of those behind FETO to enslave, divide and dismember the Republic of Türkiye were shattered by the glorious resistance of the Turkish Nation, which united under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan 8 years ago.
Ambassador Fevzioglu stated that with the struggle of the Turkish nation, it has shown to the whole world that it does not recognize any power over its own will, that it is ready to sacrifice its life to protect the state and democracy, and that the terrorists responsible for the coup attempt were held accountable before justice.
President Ersin Tatar who also delivered a speech during the event also condemned the coup attempt.
He explained that in Türkiye, the insidious terrorist organization, had planned well and infiltrated into the state through a parallel structure, made a coup attempt by challenging the democracy and national will of the Turkish Nation.
On the night of July 15th, Tatar reminded that they watched what happened in the TRNC with concern, and reminded that statements had been made from South Cyprus that if the FETO coup attempt had been successful that evening, then they would have been able to fly their own flag in Girne.
Tatar said that what happened is proof of how important the existence of Motherland Türkiye, which is governed on the basis of sovereignty with the will of the nation and is getting stronger, is both in Anatolia and in the Eastern Mediterranean.
He said that the TRNC will walk with more confident steps in this geography together with its Motherland.
Tatar also stated that the Turkish Nation and the Turkish Cypriot People will never forget what happened on July 15th.
Meanwhile a similar ceremony was also realized at the Headquarters of Police Special Operations to commemorate those who lost their lives in the coup attempt.
