Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, also the leader of the Democratic Party (DP), issued a message commemorating the 18th anniversary of former Turkish Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit’s passing.

Ataoğlu expressed respect and gratitude for Ecevit’s enduring impact on the Turkish Cypriot people.

In his message, Ataoğlu highlighted Ecevit’s critical role in securing freedom and peace for the Turkish Cypriots, stating, “Through his courageous leadership during the Cyprus Peace Operation, our people gained their freedom and the right to live in peace.

Ecevit’s people-centred politics and humanitarian values remain a guiding light in our approach to the Cyprus issue.”

Ataoğlu emphasized that Ecevit’s legacy as a defender of justice left an unforgettable mark on Cyprus’s journey toward peace and stability.

“In line with his legacy, we are resolute in our commitment to defending the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people,” Ataoğlu concluded.
