A workshop was co-organised by the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Foundation and the Girne American University with the aim of informing new generations of the achievements of the late Turkish Cypriot leader.
Academics, writers and researchers took part in the workshop at the conference hall of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre highlighted the importance of keeping Dr. Fazıl Küçük’s name and achievements alive, passing them onto future generations.
He pointed out that the late Küçük had many hats, that of a journalist, a politician, a writer, a businessman and a leader.
Stating that he had first met Dr. Fazıl Küçük when he and his family had become refugees, Töre said, “After that I found Dr. Küçük’s footprints wherever I went.”
Töre also explained how Dr. Küçük had regularly met with Turkish officials, trying to draw their attention to the Cyprus cause.
“Today there are those who are trying to trick the Turkish Cypriot people. We will have to learn to live with all that is happening,” he said.
Following the opening speeches, two sessions were held titled “Dr. Fazıl Küçük” and “Halkın Sesi.”
