Dust, strong winds and rain forecast

The dust a phenomenon blowing in from the Middle East is expected to subside on Tuesday making room for isolated showers and thunderstorms that will continue all the way up to Saturday, the TRNC Meteorology Department has announced.

The met office also issued a warning regarding stormy winds and rough seas.

High levels of dust will remain in the air until early Wednesday, the Meteorology Department announced on Tuesday stating that the dust contains small-sized inhalable particles that may have a negative effect on vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and those with illnesses.

Vulnerable members of the public are urged to wear a mask and avoid circulating in open areas until the dust passes.

The dust is expected to subside as of noon today only to be replaced with wet weather for the rest of the week.

Tonight the weather will be mainly cloudy with isolated showers expected, while from midnight onwards local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected.

Conditions at sea are also expected to be rough, with winds being mainly northerly to north-easterly, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally becoming strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, on the eastern coast.
