The Prime Ministry is taking important steps in terms of averting a possible earthquake disaster in the country.

As part of these efforts, the Earthquake Assessment Committee held its first meeting on Tuesday.

Speaking on the issue, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that immediate action will be taken in line with the decisions produced by the committee.

“We are determined to take all necessary steps in preparation for earthquakes,” Üstel said.

The government has formed a committee charged with assessing and producing decisions aimed at preparing the country for strong earthquakes.

The Earthquake Assessment Committee held its first meeting on Tuesday producing a series of decisions.

The decisions include the creation of an inventory of all public buildings, conducting earthquake resistance tests at all high rise hospitals, health centres, and school buildings, classifying them according to their risk levels, creating teams of experts who will carry out assessments of buildings and structures and launching training exercises for earthquake preparedness.

In a post on social media, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that the government will take action without losing any time in line with the decisions and recommendations produced by the committee.
